Walking habits, steps, and motivation

How can I make walking more fun?

Give the walk a second purpose: follow a story, collect something, explore a destination, keep a journal, or work toward a finish line. Choose an idea that creates anticipation rather than pressure.

How do I stay motivated to walk after missing a day?

Choose a goal that fits your real routine, make progress visible, and prepare a smaller version for difficult days. A missed day should be information—not a reason to abandon the habit.

What are the benefits of walking every day?

Regular walking can support cardiovascular health, mood, sleep, mobility, blood-sugar regulation, and everyday fitness. The benefit depends on your pace, duration, starting point, and consistency—and it does not begin only after 10,000 steps.

Can walking help you lose weight?

Walking can contribute to weight loss by increasing your physical activity and energy use, but no step count or daily walk guarantees a result. Pace, duration, consistency, eating patterns, health, and your starting point all matter.

How can I walk more when I am busy?

Use short opportunities already hidden in the day: walk after a meal, during a phone call, while waiting, or for part of an errand. Several small blocks can be easier to repeat than one long walk.

How can I get 10,000 steps a day?

Measure your usual daily steps, subtract that baseline from 10,000, and divide the remaining steps across planned walks and ordinary movement. Ten thousand is optional; a nearer target may suit your starting point better.

What should I look for in a walking app?

Look for reliable tracking, flexible goals, progress that lasts beyond midnight, and rewards you care about. Decide whether exploration, collecting, stories, competition, or personal milestones motivate you most.

Using Postmarks

How does Postmarks track my steps?

With your permission, Postmarks reads step totals from Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android. Those steps become route progress when you log your journey. Postmarks reads step count only—not heart rate, sleep, weight, or other health metrics.

Do I need to keep Postmarks open while walking?

No. Walk normally with your phone or watch recording steps, then reopen Postmarks to sync and log them. Apple Health and Health Connect can provide recent totals after the app reopens, so an interrupted session does not have to mean lost progress.

Which routes are available?

Postmarks currently has 11 routes. Japan includes Heart of Honshu, Pacific Coastline, Ancient Capitals, Snow Country, Kyushu Circuit, and Sake & Mountains. East Asia includes Korea Discovery, Taiwan Loop, Pearl River Passage, South China Coast, and Tea & Porcelain.

What do the pacing options change?

Pacing changes how closely your in-app journey follows the real-world distance. Quick Travel uses 10%, Steady uses 20%, Slow uses 33%, and True Distance uses the full route distance. Available choices depend on your edition, and the selected pace is stored with that route’s progress.

Is Postmarks a subscription?

No. Heart of Honshu is free, and the editions and add-ons currently offered in the Postmarks Store are one-time purchases. Prices appear in the app in your local currency.

How do Friends and Traveler Cards work?

Connect through private invite codes and customize a Traveler Card with a title, banner, frame, seal, and favorite collectibles. Accepted friends may see coarse journey progress, never a precise live location. Weekly steps and last-logged visibility have separate controls, and you can remove or block another traveler.
